The Latvian community of Indianapolis is honored to host the 12th U.S. Latvian Song Festival, from July 4th through the 8th, 2007. Indianapolis, a progressive city in America's heartland, is renowned as a wonderful venue for festivals and conventions.

We eagerly await you all, from near and far, to this, our Latvian song festival! Song and dance—the soul of Latvians everywhere!

Voting on July 7th

For those who would like to participate in the voting regarding Latvian referenda on July 7th, arrangements have been made to accomodate that in Indianapolis. First and foremost, please remember to bring your Latvian passport with you! ALA will be running a special voting shuttle bus to the voting precinct set up at the Indianapolis Latvian social center.

Announcements

  • Attention festival travelers! Interstate 70 through Indianapolis is currently undergoing major roadwork! This is the main highway through the city (East-West). Please check the following I-70 project web page for further details!

  • To all our guest who have rooms reserved at the Hyatt or are planning to stay there, the Festival group rate for everyone has been DISCOUNTED as follows:
    • 2 adults, or 2 two adults plus (up to) two children: $137/night
    • 3 or more adults: $157/night.
  • We would like to inform our guests that the golf outing originally planned for July 5th has been cancelled.
  • If you are considering attending the Contemporary Folk Dance Show, it is NOT sold out! Only the "Premium Seating" is no longer available.
  • The Festival Organizing Committee announces that due to technological issues, we will NOT be able to provide electronic ticket (e-ticket) ordering via our website. Please print out the Ticket Order form from the website, or cut out the form from the Laiks or Latvija Amerika newspapers and send those in.
  • If your organization, group, or other similar entity wishes to announce a gathering during the Latvian Song and Dance Festival on the Festival website (www.latviansongfest.org) please send your information to Irisa Roze at irisaroze@aim.com. There is no charge for placing the information on the website.

If you are traveling by air

Neither the Marriot nor Hyatt provide courtesy shuttles.

  • The taxi fare from the airport to downtown is around $23.-.
  • If you're traveling together, you can use the Carey limousine service, which costs $12.- per person. Their phone number is 317-241-7100.
  • The city bus ("IndyGo") #8 departs the airport every half hour from 5:15am until 11:00pm, going to city center via Ohio Street—within about 2 blocks of the Hyatt and 4 blocks from the Marriott. The fare is $1.50. You'll have to handle your own luggage and put it on the seat next to you.

A reminder to our Canadian neighbors who plan to fly to the Song Festival!

As of January 23, 2007, all those flying into the U.S. from Canada must have a passport. Please check the following link for more information:

Prizes!

The Organizing Committee of the 12th U.S. Song and Dance Festival is pleased to announce that the U.S. and Canadian Daugavas Vanagi will award prizes to the best new dance at the Contemporary Folk Dance Show and that the Canadian Daugavas Vandzenes will award a prize to the ethnografically most accurate costume presented at the Folk Costume Show!
